Jason Pothof is the eighth grade homeroom and middle school teacher.
Prior to coming to St. Dennis in 2012, he spent two years at St. Mary School in Mayville, where he taught language arts, reading, history, social studies and math.
Jason earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary middle education and a minor in athletic coaching from Marian University in Fond du Lac. He entered college undecided on a major. After taking several education classes at the advice of a former teacher, Jason found his calling.
"I realized I had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children," he says. "It's not only my responsibility to teach, but to help my students realize the future is in their hands and they have the ability to make the world a better place."
Jason philosophy is to empower his students to become life-long learners by exposing them to higher-level thinking, problem-solving and exploration. He believes every child can - and wants - to learn, and his job it to help each one reach his or her potential. "I try to build trust with each one of my students, and they understand how much I care about their education."
Jason is glad to be part of the St. Dennis School family. "There is a great sense of community and service here," he says.
Having a strong, personal relationship with Jesus has always been a priority. Jason attended a non-denominational Christian school in Randolph, Wisconsin, where he grew up with his parents and older brother and sister. Teaching at St. Mary also gave him the chance to learn more about the Catholic faith, its values and traditions.
A self-proclaimed "sports junkie," Jason has a great passion for sports, whether playing or coaching, and closely follows the Brewers, Packers and Badgers.
Jason and his wife, Lindsay, live in Sun Prairie with their daughter, Lila, born in April 2013, and their dog, Axel. High school sweethearts, they married in June 2011. Spending time with family and friends is important to Jason and Lindsay, and they also like to travel. But one of their favorite places is close to home - the Northwoods of Wisconsin - where they spend every fall enjoying the changing colors.
